If you live in Marin and are looking to expand your palate with the perfect bottle of wine, you’ll find the best selection at our Kentfield store, where our Wine, Beer, and Spirits department is managed by David Curtis. David has been working at Woodlands for 22 years and is a man you can trust when it comes to recommending the perfect bottle for your meal or palate.
David’s associate Julio Sansores has been at our Kentfield store for 20 years, and also holds a wealth of information. Amongst his extensive knowledge of the department, Julio is the department’s tequila expert, if you’re ever looking for the perfect bottle for a specific occasion.
Our department stocks a diverse, well-curated selection of red wine, white wine, rosé, beer, and spirits, and we’re confident that you’ll find what you’re looking for—especially after talking with David or Julio.
Rosé is very popular with customers right now due to the warm weather, and this trend may continue into September and October depending if the weather stays nice. Rosé is a versatile wine that many use as an aperitif, and can be paired with a diverse selection of foods like salad, salmon, or even a thanksgiving feast.
If you’re curious and looking to expand your palate and your mind, be sure to visit Kentfield every Friday from 5-7 pm and Saturday at 4-6 pm, when three wines are offered for tasting for a nominal $5 fee. David will offer up a bottle of his latest choosing for these weekly wine tastings. These events have a great mix of regulars and curious newcomers, and always offer a great opportunity to learn and try something new.
Though we’re very close to Wine Country, imported wines are well-represented and appreciated here in Kentfield. California winemakers are certainly doing some stellar jobs, but values and diversity abound in the imported wine section.
In the beer department we carry something for everyone, with IPAs naturally being the most popular. We’ve been carrying a number of hazy, unfiltered IPAs lately that have been very popular, and are a good alternative to the more bitter traditional IPAs. We’re proud to support local businesses, and stock beers from San Francisco’s Fort Point Brewery, Santa Rosa’s Henhouse Brewery, Mill Valley’s Headlands Brewery, and more.
In the summer months the customers in Kentfield trend toward lighter spirits such as gin. We particularly love Ginny’s Gin, produced locally by an English woman out of Petaluma. Another local distillery we keep in stock is Sonoma Coast Spirits, also out of Petaluma. They make great vodka, but our best-selling bottle from them is a pre-mixed Lemon Drop craft cocktail. Of course bourbon is always popular here, even in the summer—we get our fair share of fog up here, and who doesn’t want to cozy up with a tasty bourbon cocktail when the sun goes away?
